Charlie’s Story

Charlie is our brown-and-white chihuahua mix, dotted with spots and overflowing with personality. He may be a little older, but don’t let that fool you—his bark still lands with authority, like a pint-sized watchdog on a big mission!

Sure, people tease that Charlie’s a little clueless. He’ll stare at walls like they’re whispering secrets, chase shadows like they’re long-lost friends, and yes—he once startled himself with his own sneeze. A family member jokes, “There’s just one marble rolling around in there.” But I know better. Charlie’s got more heart than most of us can see.

He may not speak in words, but Charlie never stops talking.

He waits by the door minutes before our daughter walks in, as if his heart is tuned to hers.

He places a paw on me when life feels heavy—his quiet way of saying, “I’ve got you.”
He barks at the delivery guy who lingers too close—our fierce, spotted protector.

He glows with puppy-like joy when our son returns from a military mission—his tail wagging like it never learned how to quit.

And when storms grow loud, he burrows into my husband’s lap, belly up, knowing that’s his safest place in the world.

Charlie feels things deeply. He just shows it differently.

If he could put it into words, I think we’d hear:

“Thunder’s scary, but I’ll be brave if you stay close.”
“This blanket smells like home.”
“That guy? Nope. Trust your gut.”
“You don’t have to say anything—I’m here.”
…and of course, “Yes, I did walk into the screen door, but hey—I bounced back, tail wagging and all!”

And if Charlie could really spell it out, I think it would go something like:

“I chewed the couch because I missed you.
I bark because I’m small and the world is big.
I don’t understand taxes, but I understand love—and that’s you.”

Then he’d tilt his head, flash that goofy grin, and wrap it up with:
“So… any snacks?  Maybe a treat to share?”

That’s Charlie!  A little silly, a little stubborn, endlessly loyal- and living proof that sometimes love doesn't need words.  ❤️
